Heather Ashby is an independent researcher focused on the intersection of national security and technology.
Heather Ashby was previously the associate director for the United States Institute of Peace’s program on disruptive technologies and artificial intelligence and also acting director for USIP’s Center for Russia and Europe. She joined USIP after seven years with the Department of Homeland Security, where she worked on both domestic and international affairs issues.
Her research interests include technology’s impact on democratic processes, artificial intelligence, and digital security and safety. She also examines Russian influence operations in different parts of the world, particularly in the Global South.
Dr. Ashby received her doctorate from the University of Southern California in 2014.
